C on C much better survival in this massive data survey from Bristol than M on Poly. But some ceramic cups fail due to liner fracture. I believe this is due to the simple fact that surgeon assembly in blood and bone fat field is very well lubricated no matter how carefully cleaned. Hence the taper does not lock and the liner squeezed out like a cherry stone between fingers and can lift out with a tension draw test to sit at an angle in its metal back. This study does show that best of all survival is ceramic head with factory fitted ceramic liner, UK data was almost all DeltaMotion. This backs up previous studies. It’s time for thin mononlock cups to take this to next stage in Hip Resurfacing and Total hips. That’s real innovation to the benefit of patients unlike almost all current offerings being robots.

The #medicaldevice #regulatory eco system is evolving and hopefully with more medical devices experts being part of @CDSCO will strengthen the regulatory system And enforcement for ensuring #patientsafety as well as #MakeinIndia . Hopefully one day the umbilical cord will be severed between #Pharma n #Medicaldevices regulations in #India as has been the case in most countries that regulate Medical Devices.

Delighted to attend the second day of the British Orthopaedic Association’s annual AI in Orthopaedics meeting, in London. Some of my highlights: * Prof John Skinner’s overview of the future of robotics in surgery, with the insight that after surgical robots, the majority of AI investment is focused on virtual care and administration (e.g. admin workflow assistance). * Katharine Halliday’s keynote talk on ‘AI in Radiology’, highlighting how demand continues to outstrip the workforce, and how the hope is that ‘AI is the cavalry coming to help us,’ supporting better selection of tests, safer radiation planning, and, of course, scheduling! She also shared guidance on deployment and post market surveillance of AI in clinical practice: https://lnkd.in/ewYtiP2C * Tom Harte sharing his unique perspective on opportunities and challenges in the US Value Based Care (VBC) healthcare environment. I thought I would follow up my post about the Aston Vision Sciences Ltd filter with a bit of the science. The National Library of Medicine, NLM provides a fantastic description of the uses of fluorescein which you can read at the above link, but let us have a quick review here. In ophthalmology and optometry, we use fluoroscein for Applanation Tonometry Gonioscopy Contact lens fitting  angioscopy /angiography of the retina and iris vasculature Contrast imaging for detection of corneal abrasions, epithelial keratitis, herpes simplex keratitis, or corneal foreign bodies. Tear break-up time measurement in dry eye management In short, fluoroscein is indispensable to everyday practice and treatment. Used in optometry and ophthalmology, fluoroscein sodium dissolves in aqueous alkaline, tears to you and me, and responds (gets excited) to cobalt blue light in the range 465 to 490 nm and fluoresces at 520 to 530 nm. If we look at the graph above we can see the overlap between the incident blue light and the fluorescence of the fluoroscein. So clearly the best view will appear in the “Fluoroscein Magic Zone”, the Goldilocks Zone of not too blue and not too green, but just right. Now what if there was a filter that would fit onto most slit lamps, was made of durable polycarbonate, with a secret formulation that put it right in the Goldilocks zone, and didn't get used as a book mark or cup stand?
